Lou Marinelli, head coach of the New Canaan Rams’ football team, and Wendy Cunney, the president of New Canaan Youth Football, are among the speakers at the 2018 USA Football National Conference this weekend at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
Their presentation “Growing the game in your community,” will touch on the foundations of what has made New Canaan’s football program strong from the youth leagues to the high school.
According to the USA Football website “In an era where football is constantly under scrutiny and concerns with concussion, injuries and safety, football is flourishing in New Canaan, Connecticut. With a thriving and seamless program from third grade through high school, the cornerstone of their program is how football develops a foundation of inherent values for players to draw upon in all of life’s endeavors. This session will highlight ways to build, unify and sustain a vibrant program. With the implementation of tackle, flag, camps, mentoring, cheerleading, along with social and community opportunities, they will present ways to connect your local football programs for maximum participation and community support.”
“We are pleased to have Lou and Wendy share their insight as speakers at our National Conference,” USA Football CEO and Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck said. “Education and development is at the heart of this three-day event as leaders unite to advance football together. Lou’s and Wendy’s knowledge and experience will benefit the audience and the young athletes they serve.”
The USA National Conference is the largest annual gathering of high school and youth football leaders in the country, uniting more than 1,000 high school coaches and athletic administrators.
Among the event’s speakers joining them are Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter, Villanova University Director of Athletics Mark Jackson, National High School Hall of Fame coach Chuck Kyle of Cleveland St. Ignatius H.S., four-time state champion head coach Jason Mohns of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro H.S., University of Arkansas head coach Chad Morris, and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker and Super Bowl XX Champion Mike Singletary.
